Forensic Document Examination

Laboratory examination of questioned documents, signatures, handwriting, and alterations using optical and chemical forensic graphology.

A Scientific Approach to Handwriting, Signature, and Document Examination

Forensic document examination is one of the most critical forensic-science disciplines for uncovering the material truth in disputes involving forgery, fraud, or entitlement. Our expert team scrutinizes suspect documents at the microscopic and spectral (light-analysis) level, using graphology (the science of handwriting) and forensic document examination methodologies. The goal is to prove, with conclusive data, whether a document is original or has been subsequently altered.

Laboratory Examination Techniques and Analysis Stages

The core analysis and audit steps carried out in our laboratory to ensure documents carry conclusive evidentiary weight before judicial authorities are as follows:

Graphometric Signature and Handwriting Attribution Analysis

Suspect signatures and handwriting are compared under microscopic examination against the individual's known genuine (exemplar) signatures and handwriting in terms of pen pressure, stroke formation (starting and ending points), speed, slant, habits, and calligraphic characteristics.

Alteration, Splicing, and Overwrite Detection (VSC Analysis)

The document is examined under light sources of various wavelengths (UV, IR) to detect scraping, erasure, chemical removal, or later additions (overwriting). This clearly reveals different inks bled beneath the surface or signs of splicing.

Seal, Stamp, and Document-Age (Ink) Examination

The compliance of seal/stamp impressions on official or private documents with original dies, printing/typewriter technologies, and the chronological sequence in which the signature, handwriting, and seal were applied (which came first) are examined to detect chronological forgeries.

Why Should Professional Forensic Document Examination Be Performed?

The most common losses of rights in commercial and legal relationships stem from misuse of a signature given in blank, alteration of a promissory note (adding figures), or allegations of a forged signature. Preventing flawed assessments in official expert reports at trial, or supporting your position with a scientific opinion under Turkey's Code of Civil Procedure (HMK Art. 293), is only possible through this in-depth laboratory analysis.

"In short: handwriting and a signature are the unique physical traces of a person's behavior committed to paper. Forensic document examination decodes these traces with scientific methods, piercing the armor of forgery and ensuring justice is properly served."
